Shakira reveals near retirement from music career plans

Published on: June 9, 2026 5:48 PM

Shakira has revealed that she once came very close to quitting music entirely, as she considered leaving fame behind to live a quiet life focused on farming and raising animals. The global pop star said she briefly imagined a completely different future before realizing her artistic journey was far from over.

The singer explained that during that period of doubt, she seriously considered stepping away from the entertainment industry. She even thought about buying a farm and dedicating her time to animals, choosing a peaceful lifestyle over global concerts and international recognition.

However, she later reflected on that decision and described it as unrealistic in hindsight. Shakira said she realized she still had much more to express creatively and professionally, which ultimately kept her committed to her music career.

In her comments, she admitted that people sometimes underestimate their own value and potential during moments of uncertainty. She added that such thoughts can lead individuals to question long-term success, even when they still have significant contributions ahead.

Despite once considering retirement, Shakira continues to remain active at the highest level of the music industry. She recently performed the official 2026 FIFA World Cup anthem, further strengthening her long-standing connection with global football events and international audiences.

Looking ahead, Shakira is also set to co-headline the FIFA World Cup Final halftime show on July 19. Her continued presence at major global stages highlights her lasting influence in both music and sports entertainment, reinforcing her status as a global cultural icon.
