Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening its longstanding and friendly relations with Italy.
During an informal discussion with Italy’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Marilina Armellin, at a reception marking the 80th National Day of the Italian Republic, he extended congratulations to the government and people of Italy on behalf of the Senate and the people of Pakistan, said a news release.
He described Italy as a trusted friend and emphasized that bilateral ties are built on mutual respect, shared interests, and cooperation on regional and international issues.
The Chairman Senate highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and growing trade and investment.
He also appreciated Italy’s support for Pakistan’s GSP+ status and its development cooperation in the fields of healthcare, education, and sanitation.
Gilani commended Ambassador Marilina Armellin for her efforts to promote bilateral relations and expressed confidence that Pakistan-Italy friendship and cooperation would continue to grow in the years ahead.
The Chairman Senate also cut a commemorative cake and conveyed his best wishes to the government and people of Italy.

Kundi, Gilani discuss wheat supply
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi called on Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and discussed the overall political situation, parliamentary affairs, and key issues facing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Governor highlighted various administrative, economic, and public challenges confronting the province, particularly obstacles in wheat transportation and inter-provincial movement, saying the restrictions were causing difficulties for the public, farmers, and business community and required effective federal intervention.
He stressed that all constitutional and democratic forums must play an active role in resolving public issues, ensuring timely completion of development projects, and safeguarding the province’s rights. Matters relating to law and order, employment opportunities, basic public services, and public welfare were also discussed. Senate Chairman Gilani expressed keen interest in addressing the province’s issues and emphasized that unity among the political leadership was essential for protecting the rights of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He appreciated the governor’s efforts for the removal of restrictions on wheat supply and the reopening of CNG stations in the province. The two leaders also discussed strengthening federal-provincial relations, promoting parliamentary traditions, and reinforcing democratic institutions, agreeing that greater coordination and consultation among the federating units were vital for effectively addressing public concerns.
