LAHORE: An eight-member Pakistani delegation led by Senate Standing Committee on Defence Chairman Senator Mushahid Hussain Monday reached Jakarta on a four day study tour to Indonesia. According to a statement, the visit, arranged by the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT), is aimed at seeking deeper understanding of democratic consolidation in Indonesia. The delegation includes senior parliamentarians, representatives of major political parties and members of PILDAT Dialogue Group on Civil-Military Relations. The delegates attended a lecture by Jakob Tobing, who is one of the most prominent architects of democracy consolidation in Indonesia. Tobing had played an instrumental role in Indonesia’s transition from the authoritarian rule to democracy in 1998. In his lecture, he highlighted the reform process by virtue of which Indonesia completed its journey from authoritarian rule to democracy. Other members of the delegation include National Assembly Standing Committee on Railways Chairman Syed Naveed Qamar, Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice Chairman Muhammad Javed Abbasi, Senate Standing Committee on Defence Production Chairman Lt General (r) Abdul Qayyum, advocate Syed Ali Zafar, PILDAT Joint Director Aasiya Riaz and Projects Manager Amna Kausar.
