Israeli strike kills seven in Gaza

Published on: May 28, 2026 7:34 PM

At least seven Palestinians were killed and 18 others injured in an Israeli airstrike on an apartment in Gaza City, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society. The attack hit a residential building near Al-Israa Tower on Omar al-Mukhtar Street. The incident has further intensified concerns over civilian safety in the densely populated area.

Emergency teams recovered seven bodies from the site, including two children and two women, officials said. Injured victims were transferred to Al-Saraya Field Hospital for urgent treatment. Rescue operations continued as crews searched through debris in the affected building.

Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli warplanes targeted an apartment in the Farah residential building during the strike. The area is located in central Gaza City, where many families reside in closely packed housing blocks. The airstrike caused significant destruction to parts of the residential structure.

The Israeli military claimed it targeted two senior members of Hamas in northern Gaza. However, the group Hamas has not issued a direct response to the allegations. Israeli media reports suggested the targets included brigade-level commanders, though identities were not confirmed.

Meanwhile, Hamas accused Israel of escalating attacks and violating ceasefire understandings signed earlier in Sharm el-Sheikh. The group said recent strikes on residential areas indicate a return to large-scale conflict patterns. The ceasefire, brokered by regional and international mediators, had aimed to reduce hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
