At least eight suspected militants were killed during a joint intelligence-based operation conducted by police and the Counter Terrorism Department in Bannu, while one police officer was martyred during the exchange of fire, officials said.

According to the Central Police Office, the operation was carried out early morning in the limits of the Miryan police station after authorities received intelligence regarding the presence and movement of militants in the area.

Officials said police and CTD personnel launched the operation using modern surveillance methods, including drones and advanced technology, to monitor militant activity before engaging in a firefight.

During the exchange of gunfire, one police officer lost his life while another officer sustained injuries and was shifted to a hospital for treatment. Authorities said multiple militants were also injured during the operation, though the exact number could not immediately be confirmed.

Security officials stated that eight militants linked to “Fitna al-Khawarij” were killed during the raid. They added that a 10-kilogram improvised explosive device was also recovered from the area and safely defused on the spot by bomb disposal personnel.

The operation was part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to counter militant activity and improve security conditions in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where attacks on law enforcement personnel have increased in recent months.

Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Zulfiqar Hameed said operations against militants and anti-peace elements would continue across the province.

He stated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police remained on the frontline to protect the lives and property of citizens and would respond firmly to any threats posed by militant groups.

Authorities said search and clearance operations were continuing in surrounding areas to ensure no additional suspects remained hidden nearby.

The latest operation highlights ongoing security challenges in the region as law enforcement agencies continue efforts to curb militant violence and maintain stability.
