Security forces carried out a successful intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, killing two terrorists, including a key ring leader, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The military’s media wing stated that the operation was conducted on April 19 following reports of terrorist presence in the area. During the intense exchange of fire, two militants described as members of the Indian-backed “Fitna-al-Khwarij” network were neutralised, including ring leader Waheedullah alias Muktiar and a suicide bomber.
ISPR confirmed that a suicide jacket, along with weapons and ammunition, was recovered from the killed terrorists. Officials said the operation successfully prevented what could have been a major terrorist attack in the region.
According to the statement, Waheedullah was a highly wanted figure involved in multiple acts of terrorism targeting both security forces and civilians. He was also identified as the main handler of a suicide bomber responsible for an attack in Bannu on February 21, 2026, which led to the martyrdom of Lieutenant Colonel Gul Faraz.
The military described the latest operation as a significant success, stating that it effectively “avenged the heinous act” and brought the key perpetrator to justice. A follow-up sanitisation operation is currently underway to clear the area of any remaining threats.
ISPR added that security forces remain committed to continuing counterterrorism efforts under the national vision “Azm-e-Istehkam,” aimed at eliminating foreign-supported terrorism from the country.
Pakistan has witnessed a rise in militant activity in recent years, particularly in border regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Security officials say ongoing operations are focused on dismantling these networks and preventing cross-border infiltration.
