Pakistan name squad for Australia ODIs

Published on: May 22, 2026 10:00 PM

Pakistan have announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia. Star batter Babar Azam returns to the side after missing the Bangladesh tour due to a fitness issue. The series is set to begin next week and will serve as preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will continue as captain, while Salman Ali Agha has been named vice-captain. Selectors also recalled Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, and Shadab Khan after their absence from the previous series. The squad reflects a mix of experienced and emerging players.

Left-arm spinner Sufyan Moqim also makes a comeback after finishing as the leading wicket-taker in PSL 2026. Meanwhile, Ahmed Daniyal, Arafat Minhas, and wicketkeeper Rohail Nazir have been included in the ODI squad for the first time. These additions highlight the selectors’ focus on fresh talent.

However, key players Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub miss the series due to injuries. Senior wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan has also been left out of the squad. The changes mark a significant reshuffle ahead of the high-profile series against the world champions.
