Sherry condemns Indian Army chief’s anti-Pakistan remarks

Published on: May 18, 2026 2:53 AM

Vice President of Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Sherry Rehman on Sunday strongly condemned “hostile and provocative remarks” made by the Indian Army Chief against Pakistan, warning that such statements pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability.

In a statement, Sherry Rehman said Pakistan’s consistent diplomatic, political and defence achievements on the global stage had left India increasingly “frustrated and unsettled.”

She said that the international community now acknowledges Pakistan as a responsible, dignified and significant nuclear power. The PPP leader said that major world powers were actively engaging with Pakistan on matters relating to regional peace, conflict resolution and diplomatic progress.

Criticizing India’s “war-driven mindset,” she said that New Delhi often initiates aggressive actions and later turns to the international community for de-escalation.

Sherry Rehman said voices advocating peace and dialogue were also emerging from within India, including former military officials, RSS-linked circles and groups from Kashmir.

She said that the Indian public was already facing inflation and economic hardships amid the impact of ongoing global conflicts.

Sherry Rehman urged the government of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to respect the aspirations of its people for peace instead of pursuing confrontational policies.

Referring to previous tensions between the two countries, Sherry Rehman said Pakistan had effectively demonstrated its defensive capabilities during “Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos,” saying g that Indian aircraft were brought down during the confrontation.

She further said former US President Donald Trump had acknowledged Pakistan’s air superiority on multiple occasions. The Senator reaffirmed that Pakistan would never compromise on its sovereignty or national defence, warning that any act of aggression would be met with a “strong and befitting response” from Pakistan’s armed forces and its people.

Separately, Bilawal House spokesman Surendar Valasai on Sunday has strongly condemned the provocative remarks by Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi regarding Pakistan, terming them irresponsible, dangerous and reflective of the extremist mindset prevailing under the BJP-RSS regime in India. He said India should first take care of its own internal strife and worsening social divisions instead of issuing hollow threats against Pakistan.

The days of altering the geography and history of the region through aggression are over, and any confrontation with Pakistan would invite a firm, united and decisive response from the Pakistani nation and its brave armed forces.

Surendar Valasai said Pakistan is a sovereign nuclear state fully capable of defending every inch of its territory. He added that any misadventure or aggression against Pakistan would become India’s last attempt, as the people of Pakistan stand shoulder to shoulder with their armed forces for the defence of the country.

He further stated that India remained home to one of the worst forms of apartheid in modern human history in the shape of caste oppression, untouchability, religious discrimination and social inequality.

He said millions of Dalits, Muslims and other minorities are subjected to discrimination, violence and human rights violations on a daily basis, which is a matter of grave concern for humanity.

The Bilawal House spokesman said the world is witnessing the rise of intolerance, communal hatred and extremism under the BJP government led by Narendra Modi, whom he described as the “Butcher of Gujarat.” He added that instead of threatening neighbouring countries, the Indian leadership should focus on protecting the rights and dignity of its own marginalized communities.

Surendar Valasai said Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Pakistan Peoples Party will continue to lead from the front at the national and international levels to expose the dangerous designs, extremist ideology and aggressive posturing of the Indian government. He reiterated that Pakistan desires peace, stability and regional cooperation, but any aggression against the country would be responded to with full force and unwavering national unity.
