Memon condemns point scoring on arrest of drug queenpin

Published on: May 16, 2026 2:57 AM

Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, said that all assembly members should remember that the government has launched a strict campaign against drugs. He said he had earlier made it clear on the assembly floor that every member should consider themselves a minister for anti-drug efforts, because drugs are not just a problem for one institution or the government, but an issue affecting the entire nation and the younger generation.

Speaking in the Sindh Assembly, he said that drugs are not only a problem for Sindh or Pakistan, but a global challenge, with international networks operating at a worldwide level. He added that Sindh and Pakistan belong to all of us, and eliminating drugs is a shared responsibility. Therefore, it is essential to make Sindh drug-free.

Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the arrest of Anmol alias Pinky is proof that the government is serious about eradicating drugs. He criticized the opposition leader, saying that he should have raised the matter on the assembly floor instead of speaking outside the assembly. According to him, if the opposition leader has suggested drug testing for members, then it is a good proposal and everyone should be tested. However, he condemned point-scoring on the issue and said that if names start being mentioned, many names could emerge, so it is inappropriate to malign individuals publicly.

He further stated that action would be taken against anyone involved in drug trafficking. According to him, the names of several well-known individuals and some celebrities have also surfaced in the matter, but the government’s objective is to eliminate this menace from its roots, as it has become one of the most serious problems facing society.

Sharjeel Inam Memon said that Faryal Talpur had also directed the police to take strict action against drug dealers during a meeting held within the assembly premises. He added that the parliamentary leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement had politicized the matter, which was regrettable. He said that if the issue had been raised on the assembly floor, every point could have been answered with evidence.
