Pakistan Cricket Board is preparing a new central contracts list as the current three-year financial model approaches its expiry on June 30, while discussions continue over player categories and future salary structure. Officials are evaluating both domestic and international performances before finalizing contracts for the upcoming season starting July 1.
Among the emerging names, Test cricketers Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal are reportedly strong candidates for inclusion after impressive domestic performances. Their potential selection reflects PCB’s increasing focus on rewarding consistent domestic form and strengthening the national pipeline for future international assignments.

Meanwhile, the previous financial structure introduced in 2023 by former PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf remains under review as the board considers adjustments to improve competitiveness and balance player incentives. Last year, 30 players received central contracts, although no cricketer was placed in Category A for the first time in the system’s recent history.
However, sources suggest that several established players, including Mohammad Nawaz, Abdullah Shafique, Faheem Ashraf, Hussain Talat and Khushdil Shah, may face uncertain contract renewals this season. Their positions are being reassessed based on recent form, fitness levels and overall contribution to national and domestic cricket across formats.

At the same time, PCB officials are weighing financial sustainability alongside performance-based rewards as they restructure the central contracts model. The board aims to ensure a more competitive system that encourages young talent while maintaining stability for senior players representing the national side in international competitions.
Furthermore, final approval of the new financial model will be taken by PCB leadership under Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is expected to make the decisive call in the coming weeks. The updated contracts are anticipated to reflect a shift toward merit-based selection, with stronger emphasis on domestic performers and long-term team development strategy.
