iPhone camera set for major AI redesign in iOS 27 update

Published on: May 13, 2026 7:31 PM

Apple Inc. is preparing a major upgrade to the iPhone Camera app with iOS 27, introducing artificial intelligence features, deeper customization and a redesigned user interface. Reports suggest the update will significantly change how users capture, edit and interact with photos and videos on their devices.

According to industry reports, including information shared by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the new system will allow users to fully customize camera controls through a widget based layout. Moreover, the redesign will retain standard features like Night Mode, Flash, Live Photos and resolution settings while giving users more control over interface design.

The updated Camera app will introduce an advanced control system that allows users to choose which tools appear on screen during shooting. Additionally, each mode such as Photo, Portrait and Video will include separate adjustable widgets, enabling more precise control over exposure, depth and other photography settings.

Another major change involves relocating the camera options menu closer to the shutter button for faster access during shooting. Furthermore, Apple aims to improve usability by making the interface more intuitive, allowing both casual users and photography enthusiasts to navigate tools more efficiently without interrupting the shooting experience.

The update will also bring a new AI powered camera mode integrated with Siri and Apple’s Visual Intelligence system. This feature is expected to support real time translation, object recognition and smart identification of items such as plants and landmarks directly through the camera interface.

In addition, iOS 27 is expected to introduce a broader redesign of Siri, including chatbot style interactions, Dynamic Island integration and a standalone app with conversation history. Overall, the update signals a major shift toward AI driven tools across the Apple ecosystem, including improvements to Weather, Image Playground and system level customization features.
