PSX loses steam as KSE-100 index sheds over 1,700 points

The benchmark KSE-100 Index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) turned around to bearish trend on Friday, losing 1,778.46 points, a negative change of 1.03 percent, closing at 171,115.82 points against 172,894.28 points on the last trading day, according to PSX data.

During the session, the ready market recorded a trading volume of 1,025 million shares with a traded value of Rs 36.667 billion, compared to 986.970 million shares valuing Rs 52.705 billion in the previous session. The market capitalization declined to Rs 18.903 trillion from Rs 19.046 trillion a day earlier. Out of 487 active companies in the ready market, 210 advanced, 243 declined, and 34 remained unchanged.

K-Electric Ltd topped the volume chart with 144.424 million shares, followed by Hascol Petrol with 100.747 million shares and Cnergyico PK with 84.108 million shares.

The top gainers included PIA Holding Company LimitedB, which increased by Rs 1,751.73 to close at Rs 19,269.06, and Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited, which gained Rs 480.17 to settle at Rs 26,600.00.

On the losing side, Rafhan Maize Products Company Limited declined by Rs 41.76 to close at Rs 9,430.72, while Abbott Laboratories (Pakistan) Limited fell by Rs 26.35 to close at Rs 891.67. In the futures market, 324 companies traded, of which 88 recorded gains, 232 declined, and 4 remained unchanged, according to PSX data.
