Zelensky warns of Belarus border activity

Published on: May 2, 2026 10:00 PM

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned of “specific activity” detected near the Belarusian border. He said Ukrainian forces are closely monitoring developments and documenting movements in the area. The alert comes amid heightened regional tensions.

In a video address, Zelenskyy said Ukraine is prepared to respond to any actions threatening its sovereignty. He emphasized that military and intelligence units are maintaining strict surveillance. Authorities have not provided detailed information on the nature of the activity.

The president also announced that Ukraine is preparing new sanctions packages. He said these measures will be implemented in stages, depending on developments. The move is part of Kyiv’s broader strategy to increase pressure through diplomatic and economic tools.

Zelenskyy added that Ukraine is in ongoing talks with international partners. These discussions include cooperation with countries in Europe, the Middle East, and the Gulf region. The focus is on strengthening air defense systems and improving economic resilience.

He also expressed expectations of significant diplomatic progress in May. Meanwhile, regional tensions remain high, with continued concerns about escalation along Ukraine’s northern borders. Authorities say they will continue monitoring the situation closely.
