The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced to directly purchase 225,000 tons of wheat from local farmers during the current season.
According to officials on Monday, the Primary objective of this policy is to guarantee fair compensation for farmers while stabilizing wheat and flour prices in the market. By eliminating middlemen, the government aims to strengthen farmers’ earnings and improve the overall supply chain.
To make the procurement process transparent and farmer-friendly, special measures have been introduced. Authorities stated that payments to farmers will be made within 24 hours of wheat purchase and will be provided in cash to ensure immediate financial support. This step is expected to help farmers better prepare for upcoming crops.
In addition, the provincial government has developed a strategy to fully stock all government warehouses with sufficient wheat reserves. The goal is to maintain uninterrupted availability of wheat throughout the year, prevent artificial shortages and keep prices within reach for the general public.
Officials further noted that this policy will play a key role in ensuring the availability of affordable flour for citizens. The officials highlighted that similar measures taken before Ramzan had produced positive results, leading to a noticeable decrease in wheat and flour prices, not only in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but also in other provinces.
The government emphasized that this initiative will benefit both farmers and consumers, creating a more stable agricultural and economic environment in the region.
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Monday chaired an important meeting on the Annual Development Programme (ADP), where several new projects related to media, IT, law, mining, labour, and youth empowerment were reviewed.
According to a spokesperson for the Chief Minister’s House, the meeting discussed new development schemes for the departments of Information and Public Relations, Science and Technology, Information Technology, Law, Mines and Minerals, and Labour.
During the meeting, the CM directed officials to propose a scheme for providing interest-free loans to journalists for establishing media production and broadcasting setups.
He said such loans would help young journalists become self-employed, establish their own platforms, and perform their professional duties independently and without external pressure.
Sohail Afridi also instructed the authorities to prepare schemes for establishing media colonies for journalists and improving press clubs in merged districts to strengthen journalism infrastructure across the province.
The meeting was also informed about proposals for setting up daycare centers in all judicial complexes, establishing a Judicial Academy in Peshawar, and constructing district judicial complexes in Bajaur and Mansehra.
