Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has established its second wheelchair tennis venue in Punjab at University of Agriculture Faisalabad, marking another step forward in promoting inclusive sports across the country.
According to a press release issued by the PTF, the development comes shortly after the successful launch of a wheelchair tennis talent hunt and coaching camp at K21 Club Model Town Lahore on April 16. With the approval of the university’s vice chancellor and support from President of the Pakistan Handball Federation, Muhammad Shafiq, the federation converted an existing basketball court into a multi-purpose facility suitable for both tennis and basketball. The PTF also provided essential equipment, including poles, nets, and court markings, along with two specialized wheelchair tennis chairs and four rackets.
An ITF-PTF Wheelchair Tennis Development Initiative coaching camp and talent hunt event was held at the Faisalabad venue on April 18, drawing participation from 14 boys and girls from the region. The PTF Vice President Muhammad Khalid Rehmani, who is also a member of the Wheelchair Tennis Committee of the Asian Tennis Federation, attended the inauguration ceremony along with Wheelchair Tennis Coordinator Salman Karim Mughal. Both officials supervised the talent identification process.
Following the trials, local coach Zeeshan Ashraf shortlisted four players who will undergo structured weekly coaching sessions aimed at developing their fundamental skills. The training sessions will be supervised by wheelchair athlete Muhammad Mohid Tariq.
Speaking on the occasion, Rehmani congratulated the selected players and noted that the facility would also remain available for recreational use by other participants. He expressed appreciation to the university’s administration and sports directorate for their cooperation.
Mughal also addressed the participants, while Mohid Tariq thanked the federation for its initiative and shared plans to expand wheelchair sports activities in Faisalabad in the near future.
