ICT admin suspends two transport services until further orders

Published on: April 20, 2026 10:01 AM

The Islamabad district administration has announced the suspension of 2 types of transport-public and heavy vehicles-across the city until further orders, urging residents to cooperate with security agencies during this period.

The district administration of Islamabad on Sunday issued an important notice regarding transport operations in the federal capital. According to the announcement, both public transport and heavy transport have been suspended across the city with immediate effect. The restriction will remain in place until further orders are issued by the authorities.

Officials stated that the decision has been taken in view of the current situation, though no specific timeframe has been shared for the restoration of services. The suspension applies to all forms of public transport, including buses and vans, as well as heavy vehicles operating within city limits.

The administration has requested citizens to cooperate with law enforcement and security agencies. Residents have been advised to plan their travel accordingly and avoid unnecessary movement during this period.

Meanwhile, Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) enforced complete closure of the Red Zone and extended Red Zone for all types of traffic and issued a comprehensive alternate traffic plan in view of the arrival of foreign delegations.

An ITP official told APP on Sunday that the Expressway from Korral to Zero Point would remain closed for all traffic, while movement on Srinagar Highway may also be suspended at intervals.

Entry of all types of heavy traffic into Islamabad will remain banned during this period, with transporters advised to avoid traveling towards the capital.

Residents of G-5, G-6, G-7, F-6 and F-7 can use Margalla Road and 9th Avenue for travel to and from Rawalpindi.

Traffic from Faisal Avenue towards Zero Point will be diverted to 9th Avenue.

In case of closure between Zero Point and Korral Chowk, commuters can use Srinagar Highway to 9th Avenue, then Stadium Road, Murree Road (Chandni Chowk) and Rawal Road to reach Korral.

Traffic from Park Road towards Club Road will be diverted to Tramri Chowk.

Commuters traveling from Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi are advised to use Korang Road, Bani Gala and Lehtrar Road.

Traffic from Rawalpindi Saddar to Islamabad can use Colonel Sher Khan Road via Faqir Aipee Road or 9th Avenue.

Heavy traffic from Peshawar to Lahore will be diverted via Taxila Motorway, Chakri Interchange, Chak Beli Road and Rawat GT Road.

Similarly, heavy traffic from Lahore to Peshawar will use Rawat GT Road, Chak Beli Road, Chakri Interchange and Taxila via motorway.

Citizens have been advised to follow alternate routes and cooperate with traffic police for smooth flow. Further updates are available through ITP’s WhatsApp channel, Islamabad Police social media platforms and ITP FM 92.4.
