Iran president hails ceasefire as Khamenei’s legacy

Published on: April 8, 2026 11:35 PM

Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the ceasefire aligns with Iran’s desired general principles and framework. He described it as the fruit of the blood of the country’s late leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, and emphasized it reflects the Iranian people’s strong presence and support. The president added that from now on, Iran will remain united in both diplomacy and defense efforts.

The statement highlighted that the ceasefire is a milestone achieved through national unity and sacrifice, signaling Tehran’s commitment to de-escalation and regional stability. Pezeshkian’s remarks underline the importance of collective resolve and citizen participation in securing peace. Analysts note that such statements aim to strengthen domestic support while reassuring international observers.

Following talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pezeshkian confirmed that an Iranian delegation will travel to Pakistan for upcoming negotiations. This move sets the stage for Islamabad-hosted talks with the United States, building on the recent ceasefire announcement. The discussions are expected to focus on formalizing peace terms and preventing renewed hostilities.

The Iranian president’s comments come amid widespread diplomatic efforts, including Pakistan’s mediation, to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the US. Both countries have agreed to maintain the ceasefire while preparing for a structured negotiation framework. Pezeshkian emphasized unity as essential in pursuing both defense and diplomatic objectives.

Observers see the announcement and delegation confirmation as crucial steps toward long-term regional stability. The visit to Pakistan is likely to address outstanding security concerns and ensure the ceasefire’s continuation. Experts consider these moves pivotal for maintaining momentum toward lasting peace.
