Global leaders praise Pakistan for Iran US ceasefire

Pakistan has been widely acknowledged by world Global leaders for its instrumental role in facilitating a two-week ceasefire between the United States (US) and Iran, a breakthrough reached just before President Donald Trump’s deadline.

President Trump, in a statement on social media, said he agreed to the temporary truce following discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir. The agreement calls for an immediate halt to hostilities across all affected regions, including Lebanon and other conflict zones.

Prime Minister Sharif welcomed the development on social media, inviting delegations from both countries to Islamabad on April 10 for further negotiations toward a comprehensive resolution. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed gratitude to Sharif and Munir for their “tireless efforts to end the war in the region,” and announced that Iran’s armed forces will cease defensive operations if attacks against the country are halted.

Several global leaders and diplomats lauded Pakistan’s mediation. UK High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott called it a “quiet, effective, diplomatic role,” while New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters praised Pakistan, Turkiye, and Egypt for working to find a solution. Australian leaders, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also highlighted Pakistan’s diplomacy as key to achieving the ceasefire.
