Government announces updated school timings in KP

Published on: March 31, 2026 4:39 PM

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has issued new school timings across the province, aiming to improve learning quality and student engagement.

Thousands of students, teachers, and school staff in government schools will now follow the updated schedule. Authorities emphasized that strict compliance is essential for the success of this initiative.

According to the official notification, primary schools will open at 7:30 am and close at 1:35 pm. Officials said the revised hours ensure better use of the school day and consistency across all government schools. Education Minister Arshad Ayub Khan directed district education officers to implement the changes immediately.

The new schedule requires structured morning assemblies with added educational activities. Schools must include moral education, speeches on various topics, and practical student exercises.

Minister Khan instructed schools to provide moral lessons through speeches three days a week and conduct short dramatic performances on the remaining three days to enhance learning.

In addition, schools are required to hold a weekly “Bazm-e-Adab” literary session on the last working day of the week. After this session, the final three periods of the day will be reserved for staff meetings and completion of registers. The move aims to strengthen administrative efficiency and provide teachers time for planning and coordination.

The notification also addresses teacher shortages and long leaves. In such cases, school heads and subject experts will conduct classes themselves to maintain teaching standards.

District education officers are tasked with monitoring compliance, ensuring that schools follow the new working hours and maintain consistent educational quality throughout the province.
