The proposed deployment, which could involve between 3,000 and 4,000 soldiers, is part of a broader military buildup in the region. The troops, currently based at Fort Bragg, are known for their rapid deployment capabilities and could be mobilised within hours if required.

While no final decision has been made regarding direct deployment into Iranian territory, officials said the move is intended to strengthen operational readiness and expand military options for Donald Trump. The White House reiterated that all military options remain under consideration.
The development follows earlier reports of additional US forces, including Marines and naval units aboard the USS Boxer, being sent to the region. Prior to this reinforcement, approximately 50,000 US troops were already stationed across the Middle East.
The escalation comes amid mixed signals on diplomacy. President Trump recently suggested progress in talks with Iran, though Tehran has denied any negotiations. Meanwhile, US military operations, which began in late February, have reportedly targeted thousands of sites within Iran.

The conflict has already resulted in casualties, with at least 13 US troops killed and hundreds wounded. Analysts warn that any further escalation, particularly involving ground forces, could significantly raise political and military risks, especially given declining public support in the United States for continued military engagement.
