Tarar reiterates commitment to journalists’ welfare

Published on: March 17, 2026 1:04 AM

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Monday reiterated the government’s resolute commitment to the welfare and development of journalist community.

The minister expressed the resolve during a meeting with a delegation of the National Press Club which was led by senior journalist Haji Nawaz Raza, and included the newly elected President Abdul Razzaq Sial and Secretary Dr. Furqan Rao. The minister extended his heartfelt congratulations for the officials of both the Democrats and Journalist panels for their success in the recent elections and expressed his best wishes for the members of the executive body.

The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister’s Media Coordinator Badar Shahbaz Warraich, Federal Secretary Information Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil, and Principal Information Officer Mobashir Hasan. Issues like Housing quota for journalists, health insurance coverage, and the grant allocated to the National Press Club under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) came under discussion.

The minister emphasized that the National Press Club serves as a powerful voice for media professionals.

He acknowledged the club’s vital role in upholding professional values and resolving the grievances of its members. Every possible measure would be taken to address the challenges currently facing the media industry, he said while issuing directives to the Federal Secretary of Information to expedite matters related to the PSDP grant for the National Press Club building.

The delegation formally invited the Federal Minister to attend the oath-taking ceremony for the new NPC officials, which is scheduled to be held after Eid-ul-Fitr.

The minister accepted the invitation, reiterating that the Ministry of Information would continue to play its proactive role in facilitating the press.
