Pakistan poised to launch 5G services before Eid-ul-Fitr

Published on: March 15, 2026 4:37 PM

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is expected to issue 5G licenses to telecom operators next week, potentially allowing mobile users across the country to experience next-generation connectivity before Eid-ul-Fitr.

Following the recent 5G spectrum auction, PTA has accelerated preparations to finalize license issuance. Officials confirmed that all necessary documentation has been prepared, enabling telecom companies to move quickly toward a nationwide 5G rollout.

The regulator has instructed operators to meet all legal obligations before receiving licenses. Each company must submit a $15 million bank guarantee as part of the licensing conditions, with one operator already fulfilling this requirement.

Officials stated that the remaining two telecom companies are expected to submit their guarantees shortly. Once completed, the licenses could be issued simultaneously, allowing for a coordinated launch of 5G services nationwide.

Telecom experts anticipate that 5G implementation will significantly improve internet speed, network reliability, and mobile experiences, benefiting users across major cities and potentially transforming digital infrastructure in Pakistan.

PTA emphasized that operators are expected to comply with service quality standards after launching 5G. The authority also plans to monitor the rollout closely to ensure smooth operations and public satisfaction.
