PM Shehbaz invites Turkish investment in agriculture

ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday invited Turkish investment to transform Pakistan’s agriculture sector. He met a delegation from Türkiye’s Agricultural Technologies Cluster (TUME) to discuss adopting advanced farming technologies. The move aims to boost productivity and strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s abundant agricultural resources and stressed the importance of modern technology to fully realise its potential. He said a comprehensive strategy, supported by friendly nations like Türkiye, is essential to modernise farming practices and enhance yields across crops and livestock.

TUME Board Chairman Abdulkadir Karagöz briefed the premier on advanced technologies his firm uses to increase agricultural output. Karagöz expressed a strong desire to expand cooperation, citing close leadership ties between Pakistan and Türkiye as a guiding framework for business collaboration.

The high-level meeting included Türkiye’s Ambassador to Pakistan İrfan Neziroğlu, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Jam Kamal and Ahad Khan Cheema, and other senior officials. Discussions focused on technological transfer, joint ventures, and investment opportunities in agriculture and livestock.

PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to becoming a key player in the global food value chain through innovation and partnership. He emphasised that leveraging Turkish expertise could accelerate sustainable growth and help the country compete more effectively in international agricultural markets.
