Two hardened criminals, wanted in dozens of robbery and other serious offences, were killed during a police shootout in the Katti Pharai Phattar area on the outskirts of Hasan Abdal, police said on Saturday.
According to APP correspondent, the deceased were identified as Ameenullah and Kamran Shehzad, both proclaimed offenders with a criminal record of more than 60 cases, including armed robberies and other serious crimes.
According to police, the suspects were present in the area with the intention of committing a robbery when a citizen alerted authorities via the police emergency helpline 15.
When police teams reached the spot, the suspects opened fire with automatic weapons. In the ensuing shootout, police personnel took defensive positions and remained unhurt.
During the exchange of fire, the two suspects were reportedly struck by bullets fired by their own accomplices and died on the spot. Following the incident, senior police officials dispatched additional police contingents to the area. A search operation is currently underway to track down and arrest the fleeing accomplices.
