Lahore: On the second day of ThinkFest 2026, Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Malik urged global climate accountability. Speaking at Alhamra Arts Council, he called climate change a failure of international cooperation and justice. He emphasized the need for nations to act collectively rather than in isolation.
During the session titled “From Lab to World Stage: The Power of Science Diplomacy,” Malik argued that scientific research must move beyond labs. He called for “scientific diplomacy,” where countries share knowledge and collaborate on climate solutions. Malik stressed that science can bridge political divides and foster joint global projects.

He highlighted Pakistan’s vulnerability despite contributing less than 1% to global carbon emissions. Malik said that developing countries rely on international collaboration not as a choice, but as a necessity for survival. He emphasized that science should guide global policies to protect the most affected nations.
A key point of his address was global accountability. Malik criticized high-emission nations for profiting while others bear environmental costs. He called for mechanisms to hold polluting countries financially responsible. “It is wrong for profit to be privatized by a few while climate consequences affect the many,” he said.
