
Matt Damon revealed the unique difficulties of starring in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey, which is the first feature ever shot entirely using IMAX cameras.
Speaking on the New Heights podcast, Damon explained that filming entirely on IMAX created obstacles, especially for dialogue scenes, because the cameras are extremely loud, producing a constant blender-like noise close to actors.

To overcome these challenges, the production team engineered custom equipment around the IMAX cameras, including a system of mirrors, allowing actors to speak naturally while maintaining Nolan’s vision of 100 percent IMAX filming.
IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond confirmed that Nolan personally pushed the innovation, calling it a major technical challenge that had never been attempted in filmmaking history.

The Odyssey tells the story of Odysseus, played by Damon, as he faces mythical trials during his ten-year journey home after the Trojan War, blending epic storytelling with groundbreaking cinematic technology.
The film, featuring stars like Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron, is scheduled to premiere on July 17, 2026, exclusively in IMAX theaters worldwide.
