
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed officials to develop a comprehensive plan to increase Pakistan’s agricultural exports. He declared farmers’ prosperity the government’s top priority and stressed adopting modern farming methods aligned with global standards.
Chairing a high-level meeting, PM Shehbaz emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and has immense growth potential. He urged federal and provincial governments to coordinate on reforms to improve per-acre yields and overall production.

The prime minister instructed authorities to ensure the timely supply of quality seeds, fertilizers, and crop-protecting medicines. He also called for policy measures to promote exportable goods, including fisheries, fruits, value-added products, and palm oil along the coastal belt.
Officials highlighted ongoing efforts to train 1,000 Pakistani students in modern agricultural technology in China. PM Shehbaz also emphasized investment in research and development, encouraging climate- and soil-appropriate crops to boost productivity and global competitiveness.

The meeting received a detailed report on the agriculture sector, including challenges, reform measures, and a roadmap for the future. Ministers, senior officials, and private sector experts were briefed on crop yields, horticulture, dairy, and animal husbandry in regional and global contexts.
