Cold Siberian winds are expected to hit Karachi after the city’s first winter rainfall, the PMD said Wednesday. Temperatures may fall sharply in coming days. The weather shift will follow the exit of the current rain system.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall of six millimetres was recorded in Kemari. The rain was caused by a western weather system that entered late Tuesday night. Meanwhile, the system is gradually moving away from the city.
PMD spokesperson Anjum Nazeer said the weather system is likely to leave Karachi by Wednesday evening. After that, only light drizzle is expected in some areas. As a result, clearer but colder conditions will follow.
He added that cold Siberian winds will affect Karachi from January 4 to 5. During this period, minimum temperatures may drop to single digits. This will significantly increase the winter chill across the city.
