LHC resolves 166,643 cases in 2025

Published on: December 17, 2025 2:02 AM

The Lahore High Court (LHC) successfully resolved 166,643 cases in 2025, marking a significant achievement in the judicial system.

The remarkable progress was attributed to Chief Justice Aalia Neelum’s timely and effective judicial reforms.

CJ Aalia Neelum’s transformative steps have been credited for making 2025 the best year for Punjab’s judiciary. Her initiatives included the implementation of the Integrated Criminal Justice System, merit-based recruitment of judges, enhanced infrastructure, and the introduction of modern technology.

Additionally, the establishment of video link facilities, a judicial complex for female lawyers, and welfare projects for lawyers further strengthened the public’s trust in the judicial system.

One of the significant reforms was the introduction of an advanced case management system, incorporating digital tracking and the computerization of various processes to ensure faster case resolutions.

The Integrated Criminal Justice System allowed for a streamlined process from FIR registration to case decisions, making the judicial process more transparent and efficient.

As part of her efforts to improve facilities for female lawyers, dedicated women’s bar rooms and a judicial complex were constructed.

Furthermore, new judicial buildings were planned, and a judicial tower in Lahore is set to be constructed. To address grievances from litigants, complaint boxes have been installed in lower courts across Punjab.

According to official data, the total number of pending cases at the beginning of 2025 stood at 198,005, with 134,490 new cases filed throughout the year. By the end of the year, 166,643 cases were resolved across all four benches of the Lahore High Court, which includes the principal seat. The number of pending cases now stands at 169,037, reflecting a reduction of 40,000 cases.

Senior lawyer Ahsan Bhoon praised the performance, highlighting that the reduction in pending cases is a positive outcome of Chief Justice Aalia Neelum’s leadership.

Lahore High Court Bar Secretary Farukh Illyas Cheema also commended the chief justice for ensuring timely justice for citizens and fulfilling lawyers’ demands.

Legal expert Naseer Kamboh acknowledged the CJ Neelum’s efforts to improve facilities for lawyers and expressed gratitude for her reforms.
