Pakistan driverless car

Engineers at NED University of Engineering and Technology have successfully test-driven Pakistan’s first driverless car developed using artificial intelligence.

The autonomous vehicle moved smoothly on the NED campus road, impressing students, faculty, and visitors who witnessed the demonstration.

Work on the project began a year ago at NED University’s National Center for Artificial Intelligence in the Computer and Information Sciences Department.

A China-imported electric vehicle was converted into a driverless car using robotics, AI algorithms, mapping, sensors, and computer vision technology.

Dr. Muhammad Khurram, Director of the National Center for Artificial Intelligence, said the team achieved steering control and is now working on object detection.

The vehicle currently drives at 15 to 20 km/h and can recognize lanes, speed limits, traffic signals, and judge incoming vehicles.

Another team member, Inzimam Khan, highlighted that the car is designed to handle Pakistan’s complex urban environment, with advanced sensor technology ensuring safety and efficiency.
