US B-52 bombers flew with Japanese F-35 and F-15 fighter jets over the Sea of Japan, Tokyo confirmed on Thursday, in a coordinated show of force after Chinese and Russian military exercises. Moreover, the operation highlighted both nations’ readiness to counter any attempt to change regional conditions through intimidation or military pressure.
Japan’s defence ministry stated that both countries reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining stability in the region. Additionally, officials emphasized that the flight marked the first major US show of presence since China launched extensive drills near Japan and South Korea last week. The coordinated mission demonstrated the preparedness of the Self-Defense Forces and US forces.

The joint display came a day after Chinese and Russian bombers conducted flights over the East China Sea and western Pacific, while China’s aircraft carrier drills prompted Japan to scramble jets. Furthermore, Japan accused Chinese forces of targeting its jets with radar beams, a claim Beijing denied while blaming Japan for endangering its operations.
Tensions rose further as South Korea scrambled jets when Chinese and Russian aircraft entered its air defence identification zone. Similarly, Taiwan reported increased Chinese military activity, including nuclear-capable bombers conducting joint patrols near the island. These movements added to growing concerns about China’s attempts to pressure neighboring regions.

Meanwhile, China insisted the drills were routine cooperation with Russia. Nonetheless, growing disputes, including remarks by Japan’s prime minister about a potential Taiwan conflict, have escalated regional unease.
