ISLAMABAD – The United Arab Emirates has reportedly stopped issuing visas to Pakistani citizens, according to Additional Secretary Interior Salman Chaudhry. He made the disclosure during a Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights meeting on Thursday, highlighting the difficulties faced by Pakistani travelers.

Chaudhry clarified that while the UAE and Saudi Arabia have restricted visa issuance, they have not officially imposed a ban on Pakistani passports. “If a ban is imposed, getting it removed would be difficult,” he cautioned, emphasizing the potential long-term implications for travelers and overseas workers.
The official explained that, at present, UAE visas are being issued only to holders of blue and diplomatic passports. Ordinary passport holders face significant hurdles in obtaining entry permits, often requiring lengthy procedures and special approvals.
Senator Sameena Mumtaz Zehri, chairperson of the Senate Human Rights Committee, corroborated Chaudhry’s statement during discussions with media outlets. She noted that very few visas had been issued in recent times, and those that were granted came only after considerable effort.
The development is expected to have repercussions for Pakistani expatriates and individuals seeking travel, business, or employment opportunities in the UAE. Experts suggest that the current visa restrictions may impact remittances, trade relations, and people-to-people ties between the two nations.
