Simon Cowell is known as American Idol judge

LOS ANGELES – Simon Cowell has opened up about his famously blunt approach as a judge on American Idol, The X Factor, and Britain’s Got Talent. Known for his brutally honest feedback, Cowell addressed whether he regrets some of the remarks that made him a household name.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the 66-year-old producer said he occasionally winces at things he has said, but stands by his no-nonsense style. “Look, every one of us is gonna say at one point, God, I shouldn’t have said that,” Cowell reflected.

He explained that his bluntness is intended to protect aspiring performers from false hope. “It’s kinder to be really clear to someone who has zero talent. I’m not going to bull*t these people and give them fake hope,” he said, emphasizing that honesty is a form of care for those chasing dreams.

Simon Cowell on being blamed for Liam Payne’s death:

“I don’t read any of this stuff because if I did, you would just torture yourself. The idea that you are essentially responsible for somebody’s life, 10 years after you’ve signed someone? You can’t do that.” (Rolling Stone) pic.twitter.com/mzy2WRGNOI

Cowell also noted that his approach applies universally. He stated that if his son Eric wanted to sing but was out of tune, he would not hesitate to tell him the truth. “I wouldn’t lie to him,” he said.

The television mogul also reflected on his experiences with famous talent, including Liam Payne. Cowell revealed he discovered Payne at 14 and placed him in One Direction. While he sometimes wonders if he could have done more to support Payne, Cowell insisted he does not feel responsible for how the late star’s life unfolded.

The interview sheds light on Cowell’s philosophy of mentorship, showing that his tough demeanor is motivated by a desire to be honest rather than harsh, and by a belief that aspiring artists deserve clarity about their abilities.
