UAF holds Farmer Day to enhance crop productivity

Published on: November 17, 2025 1:54 AM

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), in collaboration with the Punjab Agriculture Extension Department, organized a Farmer Day at Chak No 142, Jhumra, as part of the Wheat Campaign 2025. The event was aimed at enhancing wheat productivity across the province by promoting modern farming techniques.

UAF students, along with agricultural experts, visited the area and held a gathering with local farmers to discuss best practices for increasing wheat yields this season. The event was attended by Dr Ghulam Murtaza, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, who represented UAF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Zulfiqar Ali at the gathering.

The Wheat Campaign 2025 is designed to reach various regions of Punjab, raising awareness among farmers about advanced cultivation methods. The goal is to ensure higher wheat production this year, which will contribute to national food security and economic stability.

Dr Ghulam Murtaza spoke to the farmers about the importance of timely sowing, certified seeds, and the use of modern agricultural technologies. He emphasized that practices like drill sowing, balanced fertilization, and efficient irrigation systems can significantly increase crop productivity. “By using modern techniques, farmers can maximize their output with minimal resources,” he said, adding that UAF is committed to providing research-based solutions and practical training to empower farmers.

Khalid Mahmood, Director of the Agriculture Extension Department in Faisalabad, highlighted that the optimal window for sowing wheat is between November 1 and 20, with a final deadline of November 30. He recommended using 50 kg of certified wheat seed per acre for sowing within this period. He also mentioned that every year, wheat production competitions are held, with Jhumra consistently ranking among the top three areas.

In addition to the speeches, the session also featured a detailed briefing by experts on sustainable farming practices that ensure better soil health and higher profits. The gathering aimed to equip farmers with the knowledge and tools needed to achieve higher yields and contribute to the agricultural sector’s growth.

Also present at the event were Director of Farms Dr Muhammad Aslam, Deputy Director Extension Hafiz Adeel Ahmed, and other agricultural experts including Dr Muhammad Sharif, Dr Fatima, Dr Muhammad Iqbal, Dr Saifullah, Dr Saira, and Muhammad Akram.
