LAHORE: Mufti Abdul Qavi was granted bail by a district and session court in Multan on Tuesday. Qavi was arrested on Oct 18 near Multan in connection with the ongoing investigation into Qandeel Baloch’s murder. The social media celebrity was killed by her brother in an act of ‘honour killing’ in 2016. Last month, Qandeel’s father had told the court that Qavi was responsible for his daughter’s murder. Qavi also maintained in an earlier hearing of the case that he had not committed any crime. During the court hearing on Tuesday, Qavi’s lawyer said that his client was arrested after the prosecution received ‘directions’ via a phone call that came from Saudi Arabia. He further said that there was no point in investigating Qavi when Qandeel’s brother Waseem had already confessed to the crime. Following this, District and Sessions Judge Ameer Khan granted bail to Qavi.
