ISLAMABAD – An explosion occurred at the Supreme Court building in Islamabad on Tuesday, according to local media reports. Initial accounts suggested the blast was caused by a gas cylinder, though later reports linked it to an air conditioner malfunction.

Videos obtained by Dawn showed significant damage inside parts of the Supreme Court, including the cafeteria located in the building’s basement. Blood stains were visible on the floor, indicating that multiple people may have been injured.

Eyewitness videos captured people — including lawyers and staff — rushing out of the building in panic. One visibly injured person was seen being carried away, while another, apparently in shock, was assisted by others outside the court premises.

Law enforcement officials quickly arrived at the scene, with police securing the area. The Islamabad Police said on social media platform X that Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi visited the site along with Deputy Inspector General (Security) Atiq Tahir and Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Muhammad Shoaib Khan to oversee security arrangements.

Images shared by police also showed damage consistent with an explosion inside the court complex. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the blast or the exact number of injuries.

This is a developing story. Updates will follow as more verified information becomes available from officials and credible sources.
