Sindh decides to revise college curriculum to meet modern needs

Published on: October 22, 2025 11:46 PM

An important meeting regarding colleges in the Hyderabad region was held under the chairmanship of Secretary College Education, Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon. The meeting was attended by Director General Colleges Naveed Rab Siddiqui, Regional Director Colleges Hyderabad Mustafa Kamal, and other officials. Principals of various colleges from the Hyderabad region also participated via video link.

Key decisions made during the meeting included revising the college curriculum to meet modern requirements, implementing reforms on contemporary foundations, launching daily “Library Classes” in colleges and enhancing the overall quality of education.

It was shared that 104,326 students are currently enrolled in 72 government colleges in the Hyderabad region, which includes 27 boys’ colleges, 25 girls’ colleges, and 20 co-educational institutions. These colleges offer Intermediate, Associate Degree, and four-year Degree Programs in subjects such as Computer Science, IT, Biology, Chemistry, Commerce, and English.

Secretary Nadeem Memon instructed immediate restoration of infrastructure in 12 colleges affected by rains and other issues. He emphasized that boundary walls, classrooms, and laboratories must be fully functional to ensure smooth academic activities. He noted that most students in the Hyderabad region rely on government colleges, making it essential to maintain attendance in line with enrollment figures. To keep students engaged and committed, he stressed the importance of co-curricular activities alongside academic ones.

The meeting also addressed issues related to teacher postings, shortages, and promotions. It was reported that promotion cases for 82 teachers have been forwarded to the relevant deartments. Instructions were given to appoint teachers based on subject requirements to avoid disruption in teaching. Additionally, transfers of teachers outside the sanctioned strength (SNE) should be completed. Secretary College Education directed that the appointment of in-charge principals should be carried out by the regional committee through interviews to ensure selection of active administrative heads. He also suggested that until new IT colleges are established in the Hyderabad region, existing colleges may initiate IT programs. Furthermore, he instructed that an “Inter-College Sports Week” be organized in December to promote positive student activities.

The meeting decided that colleges facing encroachment issues should resolve them with the help of local administration. He firmly stated that no one will be allowed to occupy educational institutions and such actions will not be tolerated. Nadeem ur Rehman Memon reiterated the importance of starting daily library classes to cultivate reading habits and strengthen students’ connection with knowledge. He also directed all principals to submit suggestions for further improvement of colleges.
