Mushtaq Ahmed walks free, Gaza struggle continues

Published on: October 7, 2025 2:54 PM

Former senator Mushtaq Ahmed, a member of Jamaat-e-Islami, has been released from Israeli custody. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the news. He said Mushtaq Ahmed is now safe and healthy at Pakistan’s embassy in Jordan. The embassy is helping him return to Pakistan as soon as possible. Ishaq Dar also thanked friendly countries that supported Pakistan in this matter.

Mushtaq Ahmed shared details about his harsh treatment in Israeli jail. He said Israeli authorities handcuffed and shackled him and his companions. They blindfolded the prisoners and threatened them with dogs and guns. The group included 150 people, all taken during the Israeli navy’s raid on the “Global Steadfastness Flotilla.” This flotilla tried to break Israel’s blockade on Gaza. The group was held for five to six days.

The former senator also described a hunger strike they staged for three days. They demanded better treatment but were denied water, air, and medical care. Despite this harsh treatment, Mushtaq Ahmed said he remains hopeful. He expressed strong commitment to continue the struggle for Palestine’s freedom. He promised to share full details soon after returning to Pakistan.

The “Global Steadfastness Flotilla” left Spain last month. Its goal was to break Israel’s illegal blockade on Gaza. On October 2, Israeli commandos intercepted the convoy and arrested all participants. Mushtaq Ahmed was among those detained. This event drew international attention to the ongoing conflict and the blockade’s impact on Gaza.

Mushtaq Ahmed emphasized that the fight for Palestine will continue. He vowed to resist until the blockade ends and justice is served. He called on supporters to remain united and strong. The former senator plans to return to Pakistan soon. There, he will raise awareness about the flotilla and the situation in Israeli prisons.
