Alex Pereira Crushes Magomed Ankalaev in 80 Seconds to Reclaim UFC Light Heavyweight Title at UFC 320

Las Vegas, Nevada: Alex Pereira reclaimed the UFC light heavyweight title with a thunderous first-round knockout over Magomed Ankalaev during the main event of UFC 320 at T-Mobile Arena, stunning the crowd with a finish that lasted just 1 minute and 20 seconds.

The 38-year-old Brazilian, nicknamed Poatan, came into the bout seeking redemption for his unanimous decision loss to Ankalaev at UFC 313 in March — a fight he later said he entered at “only 40 percent.” This time, Pereira was faster, sharper, and ruthlessly efficient.

From the opening seconds, Pereira pressed forward, cutting off Ankalaev’s movement and landing surgical strikes. A brutal left hook followed by a crushing right hand ended the fight instantly, sending Ankalaev crashing to the canvas as the referee intervened.

“This was my revenge and my redemption,” Pereira said in his post-fight interview. “I told everyone I was coming back stronger — and tonight, I proved it.”

The victory reignites the light heavyweight division, especially after Jiri Prochazka’s knockout win earlier in the night, setting the stage for a potential trilogy bout between Pereira and Prochazka — a matchup fans are already clamoring for.

Co-Main Event: Dvalishvili Retains Bantamweight Title

In the co-main event, Merab Dvalishvili (21-4-0) successfully defended his bantamweight title against Cory Sandhagen (18-6-0) via unanimous decision (49-45, 49-45, 49-46).
After a competitive first round, Dvalishvili completely dominated the fight, nearly finishing Sandhagen with a D’Arce choke in the fourth. Sandhagen survived to the bell but had no answer for Dvalishvili’s relentless pressure and control.

Prochazka and Rountree Deliver a Classic

In one of the night’s most explosive clashes, Jiri Prochazka (32-5-1) scored a third-round knockout against Khalil Rountree Jr. (15-7-0). Despite being rocked early, Prochazka rallied back with a ferocious combination that ended the fight with two minutes left on the clock.

The win marks a strong comeback for Prochazka and places him directly in line for another title shot against Pereira.

Zalal Stuns Emmett; Pyfer Submits Magomedov

The featherweight bout saw Youssef Zalal (18-5-1) submit veteran Josh Emmett (19-6) with a slick armbar just 1:38 into the first round — leaving the crowd in disbelief. The victory marked Zalal’s fifth straight win, solidifying his rise in the division.

Joe Pyfer (15-3-0) opened the main card with a second-round rear-naked choke victory over Abus Magomedov (28-7-1). Pyfer rebounded after losing the first round, dropping Magomedov early in the second before locking in the submission.

What’s Next for Pereira?

With the title back around his waist, Pereira’s next logical step seems clear: a high-stakes rubber match against Jiri Prochazka. Fans are already calling it “the fight to define the era” — a clash between two of the division’s most violent artists.
