ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday expressed optimism over the recent progress in the Israel-Palestine conflict, calling it a significant step toward a potential ceasefire.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister lauded the efforts of world leaders, particularly US President Donald Trump, along with key Middle Eastern nations, for their diplomatic roles in advancing peace talks.
“Alhamdolillah, we are closer to a ceasefire than we have been since this genocide was launched on the Palestinian people,” he wrote, reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering support for the people of Palestine.
The Prime Minister also extended his gratitude to the leadership of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, and Indonesia for meeting with President Trump on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (#UNGA80) to discuss solutions for the ongoing crisis.
He further said that Hamas’s latest statement has opened a “window for a ceasefire and ensuring peace that we must not allow to close again.”
“InshaAllah, Pakistan will continue to work with all its partners and brotherly nations to achieve lasting peace in Palestine,” PM Shehbaz concluded.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump on Friday said that Hamas appeared ready for “lasting peace” and urged Israel to halt its bombing campaign in Gaza. His remarks came after Hamas declared its readiness to release hostages under Trump’s proposed ceasefire plan.
“Based on the statement just issued by Hamas, I believe they are ready for a lasting PEACE. Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the hostages out safely and quickly!” Trump posted on Truth Social.
The statement marked the first time since Trump’s return to power in January that he directly called on Israel to stop its military operations. He also thanked US allies, including Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Jordan, for their mediation efforts.
In a video message from the Oval Office, Trump described the development as “a very special day, maybe unprecedented,” expressing hope for the safe return of hostages and long-term peace in the Middle East.
