Punjab launches policy to boost tourism potential

Published on: September 28, 2025 5:32 PM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced plans to develop new tourist destinations across the province under a comprehensive and integrated tourism policy. She made the announcement while marking World Tourism Day, emphasizing the importance of promoting safe, accessible, and attractive experiences for both local and international travelers. She added that upgrading facilities at existing sites would remain a top government priority.

Speaking on the occasion, Maryam Nawaz underlined that tourism is not only a cultural and recreational activity but also a major economic driver. She noted that many countries have successfully strengthened their economies by turning natural beauty and heritage into sustainable tourism opportunities, and Punjab has the potential to follow the same path.

The chief minister stressed that Punjab’s diverse landscapes, historic sites, and rich cultural traditions make it an ideal hub for visitors. She stated that her government was working to ensure safety, comfort, and convenience for tourists while simultaneously developing unexplored areas to attract investment and create new destinations.

Maryam Nawaz further highlighted that tourism could significantly boost livelihoods by generating large-scale employment. She pointed out that the sector provides one of the most effective ways to empower local communities and enhance income opportunities, particularly for youth and women in rural areas.
