ISLAMABAD — Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have begun the second review of the ongoing loan program, with discussions focusing on flood recovery, revenue generation, and the next $1 billion tranche under the program.
The IMF mission has met with provincial officials to assess proposals for boosting provincial revenues and providing relief packages to flood-affected communities. Talks will also review the scale of flood-related damages and finalize plans for economic recovery in the coming days.
Officials said Pakistan will seek flexibility from the IMF in meeting economic targets, citing setbacks caused by recent floods. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva at the UN General Assembly in New York, urged consideration of the floods’ impact on the economy while highlighting Pakistan’s steady progress under the loan program.
