Trump Seeks Muslim Bloc Support for Gaza Peace Plan

Published on: September 24, 2025 9:17 AM

US President Donald Trump met Muslim leaders in New York to present his Trump Gaza peace plan. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and included Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Turkiye, and Indonesia also joined. Trump said the group had the power to bring hostages home and to stop the war. He called the meeting “very important” for ending a conflict that should never have started.

Before the meeting, Trump delivered a sharp UNGA speech opposing recognition of Palestinian statehood. He argued that recognition would reward “horrible atrocities” by Hamas. Instead, he pushed for a “ceasefire-for-prisoners” deal to secure the return of all captives. “We have to stop the war in Gaza immediately,” Trump told world leaders. His comments drew strong reactions from both supporters and critics.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Trump’s commitment to peace. He praised the president as “a man of peace” and recalled his past role in defusing tensions between India and Pakistan. Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim also thanked Trump for hosting the urgent meeting. He said Muslim nations counted on US leadership to end the war and protect the people of Gaza.

According to the White House, the Trump Gaza peace plan proposes a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. It also calls for regional peacekeeping forces, reconstruction aid, and a transition process led by the Palestinian Authority. Both the US and Israel insist Hamas will have no role in the arrangement. Washington wants Arab and Muslim nations to send troops and provide funding for rebuilding.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the meeting as “one last shot” at peace. He said a lasting deal would allow Palestinians to govern territory but not launch attacks against Israel. Diplomatic sources confirmed that Israeli leaders were informed of the plan’s outlines. While details remain unclear, the multilateral meeting signaled a rare moment of unity among Muslim states to discuss a possible path to end the Gaza war.
