ISLAMABAD — Pakistan and 15 other countries have called for the safe passage of the Global Sumud Flotilla to Gaza. The flotilla is a civil society initiative that seeks to deliver urgent humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza. In a joint statement, the foreign ministers urged all parties to respect international law. They warned against any unlawful or violent action that could harm the mission or its participants. The flotilla has gained global attention due to the worsening humanitarian crisis in the besieged territory.
The signatories included countries from several continents, reflecting wide international support. These countries were Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Ireland, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mexico, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, and Türkiye. Their foreign ministers emphasized that delivering aid and upholding peace are shared priorities. They also highlighted the flotilla’s role in raising global awareness about Gaza’s suffering. The mission aims to bring attention to the urgent need for international action.
The statement strongly urged that no force should be used against the aid vessels. It warned that any attack on the flotilla would violate international law and human rights. The countries stressed that all participants must be treated fairly and lawfully under maritime and humanitarian law. They said that violations, including detentions or attacks in international waters, would trigger accountability. The message was clear: humanitarian aid must not be blocked or criminalized.
The flotilla’s voyage comes amid growing concerns over Gaza’s humanitarian crisis. Food, medicine, and clean water are in short supply due to the ongoing blockade. Thousands have been displaced or killed in recent months, and civilian infrastructure is collapsing. This has led to increased international pressure for humanitarian access. The flotilla represents civil society’s response to the lack of progress through traditional diplomacy.
The 16 countries reaffirmed their commitment to peace and international law. They urged that the mission be allowed to reach Gaza safely and without interference. The statement sent a strong diplomatic signal to prevent any military confrontation. It also reinforced the urgent need to address the crisis in Gaza through peaceful and lawful means. As the flotilla continues its journey, the world watches closely.
