
ISLAMABAD – The Federal Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has announced the formation of the ‘Qaumi Paigham-e-Aman Committee’ (National Peace Committee) to counter extremism, hate speech, terrorism, and sectarianism. The committee will act as a sub-body of the National Committee on Narrative Building. Officials said its primary goal is to create a unified national narrative promoting peace, tolerance, and harmony across Pakistan.
The committee will be chaired by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar. It will include prominent religious scholars from various schools of thought, spiritual leaders, minority representatives, and senior officials from relevant government ministries. Authorities emphasized that diverse representation will help ensure balanced and inclusive decision-making.
Notable members include Senator Hafiz Abdul Karim, Mufti Abdul Rahim, Allama Arif Hussain Wahidi, Pir Naqeeb-ur-Rehman, Allama Muhammad Hussain Akbar, and Dr. Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naeemi. Maulana Tahir Mehmood has been appointed as the committee’s coordinator, while Maulana Tayyab Panjpiri and Allama Ziaullah Shah Bukhari will also actively participate in the committee’s activities.
For minority representation, Bishop Azad Marshall, Rajesh Kumar Hardasani, and Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora have been included. Additionally, coordinators of provincial and regional peace committees, representatives of recognized madrassa boards, additional secretaries from the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Religious Affairs, and the Director General of Religious Education (DGRE) will serve as members.
The Director General of the Internal Publicity Wing of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will act as the secretary of the committee. Officials said that in its first meeting, the committee will formulate its Terms of Reference (ToRs), which will later be submitted to the national committee on narrative building for approval.
Authorities stressed that the establishment of this committee reflects the government’s commitment to promoting national unity and countering extremist ideologies. Officials added that it will work closely with provincial and regional bodies to implement awareness campaigns and foster peace across the country.
