CM Maryam leads flood survey in Multan as Chenab swells

Published on: September 10, 2025 3:42 PM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited Multan on Tuesday to assess the flood situation first-hand. She conducted an aerial survey of Multan and Jalalpur Pirwala to examine the extent of the damage. Heavy rains have caused widespread flooding across southern Punjab, prompting urgent government attention.

During the survey, Maryam Nawaz reviewed the condition of flood-hit areas and relief efforts underway. She stressed the need for fast and efficient action to help affected communities. After the aerial tour, she landed in Jalalpur Pirwala to inspect relief operations on the ground. Local officials briefed her on urgent needs and ongoing work.

This was her second visit to Multan within a week, following an earlier inspection on September 3. She reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring swift rehabilitation and long-term support for flood victims. The Chief Minister also directed authorities to speed up assistance efforts in all affected districts.

Meanwhile, the Chenab River continues to rise, posing a serious threat to Multan and nearby areas. Authorities may breach the Sher Shah dyke if water levels pass 393.5 feet. The river reached 393 feet on Monday night, with another surge expected in the next two days. Officials say this step is crucial to protect the city from large-scale flooding.

Sher Shah Road, linking Multan to Muzaffargarh, has already been closed due to floodwaters. Traffic is being diverted from key choke points around the city. Commuters from Muzaffargarh are advised to use alternate routes, especially the Multan-Sukkur Motorway. Authorities remain on high alert as the situation continues to evolve.
