President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the Petroleum Amendment Bill 2025, strengthening measures against smuggling and illegal petrol pumps. The new legislation grants Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, and Customs officials the authority to seize illegal petroleum products.
The bill also introduces an IT-based tracking system for petroleum products, aimed at increasing transparency and accountability. In addition, the amendment imposes stricter penalties and fines for violations, enhancing deterrence.
The law is designed to modernize the regulation of the petroleum sector, improve transparency, and curb smuggling and tax evasion. These measures are expected to make government efforts more effective in combating illegal activities in the sector.
Officials believe that this legislation will significantly improve the control and monitoring of petroleum distribution, contributing to a more efficient and transparent market.
