The government has proposed a small reduction in petroleum prices, which will be officially announced on Sunday. The adjustment is expected to provide minor relief to consumers facing rising living costs.
According to sources, the price of one liter of petrol is likely to decrease by 61 paisas, while high-speed diesel (HSD) may drop by Rs2.87 starting September 1, 2025. The move reflects slight global oil market changes.
After the reduction, petrol will be sold at Rs264 per liter, and HSD at Rs269.86 per liter instead of the current Rs272.99. Officials say this adjustment aims to ease the financial burden on transport and industry.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has also proposed reducing crude oil prices by Rs1.57 per liter. Once approved, crude oil will be available at Rs176.70 instead of Rs178.28 per liter.
Light diesel prices will fall to Rs158.55 per liter from Rs162.16. Sources noted that the government collects Rs80.52 per liter under the climate support levy, while Rs79.91 comes from diesel sales, balancing revenue and relief measures.
The new petroleum prices will remain in effect from September 1 to September 15, 2025. Officials confirmed that the formal announcement will be made on the night of August 31, giving consumers a clear timeline for the changes.
The expected cut reflects recent trends in global oil markets and a minor reduction in the petrol import premium. Authorities hope these adjustments will slightly ease transportation and household expenses nationwide.h
