Heavy flooding hits Sutlej River after India releases water

Published on: August 25, 2025 5:32 PM

India released a large amount of water into the Sutlej River, causing high floods in Pakistan. The Flood Forecasting Division reported a major flood at Ganda Singh Wala. Water levels there have risen to 21.30 feet and are still climbing. This rise has raised concerns for nearby areas, prompting officials to monitor the situation closely.

About 142,000 cubic feet per second of water entered Pakistan from India at Ganda Singh Wala. The government is reviewing flood safety plans for cities like Sialkot and Gujrat. Authorities want to prevent damage and keep people safe. They are preparing for possible evacuations and emergency responses in flood-prone zones.

At Head Suleimanki, officials reported a moderate flood. Water inflow reached 94,143 cusecs, while outflow was 87,529 cusecs. Water levels there continue to rise steadily. This increase threatens a large area in Pakpattan district. Officials are warning residents to stay alert and follow safety instructions.

The floodwater might affect an 80-kilometer long strip in Pakpattan. Authorities are working to reduce the damage and protect farmland and homes. They are coordinating with local teams for rescue and relief operations. This proactive approach aims to keep the impact as low as possible.

The Sutlej River’s high floods have caused serious concern in Pakistan. Officials continue to monitor water levels and prepare emergency measures. The situation remains dynamic, and residents are urged to stay vigilant. Coordination between different agencies is ongoing to ensure safety and relief.
