US President Donald Trump dismissed Iran’s decision to withdraw from the US-Iran memorandum of understanding, saying he “couldn’t care less” as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to rise despite last month’s agreement. He stressed that the United States remains focused on preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, describing it as the administration’s top national security priority.

Speaking in a brief telephone interview, Trump brushed aside Tehran’s announcement and said the withdrawal would not change Washington’s strategic objectives. The memorandum of understanding, signed in mid-June, was intended to reduce military tensions, ease selected sanctions and create a framework for future technical negotiations between the two countries.
However, the agreement has faced growing pressure following renewed disputes over the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides accusing each other of violating important commitments. Consequently, recent exchanges of strikes and increased military activity around the strategic waterway have further raised concerns about regional stability and the security of global energy supplies.

Iranian officials argue that the United States failed to fulfil its obligations under the agreement, while the Trump administration maintains that Tehran engaged in provocative actions and did not comply with measures designed to reduce tensions. Despite these disagreements, US officials have indicated that diplomatic channels remain open if Iran chooses to resume negotiations.
Meanwhile, the escalating confrontation has also increased political pressure on Trump after recent American military casualties linked to the conflict. Although critics argue the situation contradicts his earlier promises to avoid prolonged Middle East conflicts, Trump has defended his administration’s approach and reiterated that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remains a central objective of US policy.
